Lens Engineering Intern or Co-op: Mechanical – Spring ‘25

Support processing development trials to understand various process variables impact on key process output variables
-
Provide mechanical design support for projects related to the manufacture and performance evaluation of GRIN polymer optics. Create detailed models, assemblies, and prints based on design criteria and concept sketches.

Quick-turnaround design of jigs, fixtures, 3-D printed parts, and other components to support manufacturing and process development efforts. Identify materials and fabrication approaches to minimize cost and lead time.

Oversee component fabrication and install equipment modifications to improve safety, reliability, capability and/or capacity of production process equipment for GRIN lenses.

Use data analysis tools and presentation tools to efficiently communicate experimental design, results, and conclusions to internal cross-functional technical teams.

Manage project timelines and efficiently communicate progress and technical challenges, and successes.

Participate in cross-functional FMEA and troubleshooting efforts related to the fabrication of GRIN polymer optics.
*This role can be Full Time or Part Time.*
Required Qualifications

Must be located in the Cleveland, OH area

Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering

Familiarity with 3D-modeling and be comfortable generating parts, assemblies, and drawings

Eagerness to develop hands-on experience with mechanical design and manufacturing process development

US Citizenship
Preferred Qualifications

SolidWorks experience
-
Familiarity with GD&T
-
Fabrication experience and/or familiarity with hand tools
