    Manufacturing Engineer II, Extrusion

    The Manufacturing Engineer II will be responsible for the manufacture, development, and optimization of Optical Film using Peak’s patented nanolayer cast film co-extrusion process. This involves selecting and setting up equipment, designing tooling, troubleshooting production issues, and implementing process improvements. They will develop and maintain process documentation, train operators, and ensure quality control procedures are followed. They also will collaborate with cross-functional teams, manage projects, and stay updated on advancements in extrusion technology to drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, and productivity. Peak Nano is focused on developing and delivering innovative, disruptive solutions to the nanolayer film market.

    Key Responsibilities:
    • Process Development

      • Optimize process parameters to achieve desired product quality and production rates.

      • Troubleshoot existing process and equipment to identify and resolve issues.

      • Conduct experiments and trials to evaluate new materials and processes.

    • Equipment and Tooling

      • Selecting and specifying extrusion equipment and tooling.

      • Overseeing the installation and maintenance of extrusion equipment.

      • Designing and modifying extrusion dies and tooling.

      • Collaborating with vendors to source and procure equipment and tooling.

    • Quality Control and Continuous Improvement

      • Develop and implement quality control procedures.

      • Monitor product quality and identify areas for improvement.

      • Analyze data to identify trends and implement corrective actions.

      • Utilizing quality tools such as SPC, Gage R&R, and Cp/Cpk to improve processes.

      • Utilizing lean manufacturing principles to reduce waste and improve efficiency.

      • Staying up to date on new technologies and advancements in extrusion processes.

    • Production Support

      • Develop and maintain process documentation, including SOPs and manufacturing work instructions.

      • Train operators on extrusion processes and equipment.

      • Work with cross-functional teams to resolve production issues.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, industrial, or chemical engineering, or a related field

    • 2+ years of hands-on experience, preferably in the plastics industry or academia, with extrusion of thermoplastic polymer films or compounds

    • Knowledge of polymer materials and their properties

    • Familiarity with extrusion equipment and tooling

    • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

    • US Citizenship

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Hands-on operation of plastic conversion equipment such as: Cast film, blown film, or sheet extrusion, and/or co-extrusion

    • Processing experience across a wide range of polymer materials

    • Understanding of polymer chemistry and rheology

    • New product scale-up and commercialization experience

    • Design of Experiments knowledge
